Hey All, I remember Columbine. It shocked the nation. It seems like only yesterday when I was at my dad's house watching it in the news. The feelings of fright and confusion were ringing through my body. You see I was only in 8th grade at the time. Although it made me feel a little uncomfortable, I never thought my safety would be in jeopardy. Fast forward to 2018. I recently read an article on CNN; it stated that we've had an average of one school shooting a week in 2018! Can you believe that? WOW. Unfortunately, it took way to many school shootings to get the attention of the nation. People have come up with a laundry list of reasons for this awful re-occurrence. Regardless of the reason you choose to believe it's our responsibility, as adults, to ensure the safety for all. Going back Maslow's hierarchy of needs, safety is the second most basic thing we need. We all need this everywhere and at all times in order to accomplish our goals, especially in schools. It's up to us to listen to all parties, especially the young. They have a perspective on this that no adult can pretend to have. The energy they present on this issue is vital. It is motivating adults across the country to continue concentrating on this issue. My goal for this blog isn't to rant about an issue, rather I want to continue the dialogue to ensure the safety for all. Please feel free to comment and continue the dialogue with me. Your ideas on this are worth sharing.
